<p>A road isn’t just a flat strip of tar. It’s made up of several layers, each doing a specific job. At the very bottom is the natural ground, known as the subgrade. On top of that are supporting layers that help distribute the weight of vehicles, and finally, the surface layer that your tyres touch. When all of these layers are properly designed and built, the road feels smooth, stable, and safe.</p>
